Mondulkiri is often described as the Swiss Alps of Asia, complete with green grass topped rolling hills, fresh air and pine trees due in part to its altitude. The town is still little more than a village but it is worth spending some time here whilst on the eastern loop. Nearby are a range of pretty remote waterfalls which at certain times of year are great for a cooling dip. It is still possible to visit traditional indigenous villages in the region, most notably the Bunong people with their distinctive thatch huts.
