The famous Irrawaddy Dolphin (Mekong Dolphin) can be found thriving in the deep water pools north of Kratie town and can be visited by way of an adventurous long tail boat trip out into the river, an unforgettable experience. Another highlight is a little further north and Cambodia’s answer to the famous 4,000 islands in Laos, Steung Treng’s Ramsar protected islands are home to an array of bird life that inhabit the sunken forests, a birders paradise where threatened species and migratory species can often be seen side by side. One of our favourite ways to explore is by Kayak with only the sounds of nature to keep you company. For the more adventurous, island glamping can be arranged where you can spend a night under the stars.
