Working with the Cambodian People.
We value and understand that tourism can have both positive and negative effects on the local community, nature, and global environment. We therefore have take great care in order to minimise those impacts wherever possible by implementing responsible tourism practices in every aspect of our business.
We are always striving to give back to the local community as we all feel the mutual benefits of the support our guests provide. Should you be interested in supporting our community projects in order to allow them to develop then please do get in touch and we can discuss the benefits of sponsorship, both private and corporate. Kouprey Adventures pride ourselves on our relationship with local communities in Cambodia built up over the last few years. We provide genuine programmes where participants can integrate within the local community and support worthy long term sustainable projects. As we develop, our community project options will develop too. We are currently in the process of developing a small scale community eco tourism project in order to provide tourism based infrastructure and work for a marginalised local community only 1 hours drive from Siem Reap. Our eco-bungalows are unique in their design in that they are built with Adobe brick and locally sourced materials which can formed in to beautiful structures. The idea is to provide a great place to stay in the village whilst allowing true cultural interactions with the local villagers. In addition we will set up various touring options in the Khnar Pou Community which is gaining fame because of its bamboo forests and dry mangrove boardwalk. With the development of this project the community will be able to make additional income from guests staying with them in addition to their usual farming activities. The long term vision is to upskill villagers by providing vocational training and jobs within their village community. In the future we plan to hand the project back to the community only providing guidance where required.
Over 60 countries are contaminated with hidden landmines and other explosive remnants of war, that cause tragic accidents and hamper communities from developing their productive land. Meanwhile, slow and inaccurate detection methods make tuberculosis the world’s most deadly infectious disease. 10 million new people contract TB every year, 3 million go undiagnosed, and 1.8 million die from the disease. APOPO’s scent detection animals, nicknamed ‘HeroRATs’, help to rid the world of landmines and tuberculosis – returning safe land back to communities for development, and freeing people from serious illness so they can get back on their feet.
Phare, The Cambodian Circus is one of Cambodia’s most innovative social enterprise models. Profits generated through ticket, refreshment, merchandise and private performance sales support the free education, professional arts training and social support programs of Phare Ponleu Selpak in Battambang. More than just a circus, Phare performers use theater, music, dance and modern circus arts to tell uniquely Cambodian stories; historical, folk and modern.
